WOSTEP Watchmaker Programme

The WOSTEP Watchmaker Programme is a rigorous course delivered Monday to Friday over two calendar years. This structured program is industry recognised by all major brands and is carefully designed to impart advanced skills essential for both proficient after-sales service and traditional fine watchmaking operations.

Graduates from this course have access to a variety of career opportunities in customer services, brand-service-centres, independent repair shops, vintage watch services, watch development and manufacturing.

Courses run every two years (2025,2027 etc.), beginning in January. Applications close on 1st July of the year preceding the course start date.

Skills Gained

Graduates from this course can be expected to have knowledge of and be competent in:

  • History of timekeeping
  • Organisation of workshops and of customer care
  • Knowledge of tools
  • Basic Micromechanics
  • Tool preparation and maintenance
  • Basic knowledge of watch movements
  • External and internal interventions
  • Watch and movement analysis
  • Knowledge of mechanical and electronic watch movements
  • Knowledge of horological complications and complex devices
  • Movement service
  • Escapement and regulating-organ adjustments
  • Chronograph
  • Advanced escapement and regulating organ adjustments (incl. chronometry)
  • Proficiency in micromechanics (incl. material science, turning, milling and high-end finishing)
  • W-01 - School Watch project (incl. component and spare part manufacturing, assembling and COSC-timing)

Examinations

The examination schedule for this course is as follows:

  • 6 Intermediate examinations
  • Final examination which includes:
    • Theory
    • Service of cased mechanical watch
    • Manufacture of a hairspring
    • Precision timing

The curriculum also allows time for work experience at the end of year one if requested and available.

Course fees

Course fees for this course are £18,000, additionally students must purchase a complete tool kit priced at £3,500*.

The course and toolkit fees cover all essential tools, training materials and examinations necessary to complete the course. Upon graduation the toolkit remains the property of the student.
