British School of Watchmaking
Graduation Ceremony 2008
The first Graduation Ceremony for the initial 2006 intake of aspiring young watchmakers, took place at the Midland hotel in Manchester on September 16th, in the presence of the world renowned British Watchmaker Dr George Daniels.
Five Watchmakers, having completed the 2 year course, and successfully passed the final year exams last June, were invited to receive their Diploma’s from George Daniels at the Graduation Ceremony. The evening was shared with their families and friends, tutors, representatives of the Schools Founder members, the Board of Directors and Mr Maarten Pieters from Wostep in Neuchatel, Switzerland.
The top two students, Mssrs Peter Johnstone and Steven Lewis, also received a special prize of a George Daniels book on Watchmaking, from the author himself, and a watch. Enclosed photograph of all the students with the Schools Directors, Alan Burtoft, the School Tutor, Marten Pieters of Wostep and Dr George Daniels.

Peter Johnstone remarked - "The WOSTEP course at the British School of Watchmaking is the best opportunity that I have ever had. It has taught me a lot about horology and has given me a full and rounded view of what it takes to become a watchmaker. The experience of the tutors is a font of knowledge that I'm priviledged to have had access to. The facilties are second to non are as good as what you would expect to find in any watchmaking service centre. The library contains many books not only technical but also on the history of horology.
Whilst the course is very intensive it is also very rewarding. i was very nervous before the final exams, mainly because of how much it mattered to me and upon hearing that I'd passed, it was an even better feeling than passing my driving test!"
